'CONGRATULATIONS ADVOCATES... NYALUSI AND MUGENDI'


The Faculty of Law at Tumaini University wishes to congratulate its members,the Assistant Lecturers Barnabas Nyalusi and Mugendi Kohi for being admitted as members of the Bar (Advocates of the High Court of Tanzania and Subordinate Courts thereto serve for Primary Court). IMPORTANT NOTICE ON SEMESTER TWO EXAM RESULTS 2010/11

All Law students and interested parties are hereby reminded that appeals against unfair marking, wrongful computation of marks or grades or other justifiable grounds shall be initiated WITHIN 30 DAYS from the date of the release of Examination Results. This entails that the time starts running from 29th August 2011 to 29th September 2011. TAKE NOTICE that any application that will be submitted out of time will not be determined.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that hereunder are the procedures for appeals;

1.A student who feels that he or she has been assigned an incorrect or unfair grade in a course may appeal in writing through the Office Dean Faculty to the Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs within 30 days of publication of the examination results.
2.The Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs shall submit the appeal to the College Academic Board, who shall appoint a competent sub-committee to handle any appeals received during the semester. The findings and recommendations of the sub-committee shall be forwarded to the Academic Board.
3.In the course of the appeal, the student shall be liable for the initial burden of proof.
4.The University administration shall have the power to require any appellant to bear the cost of any special investigation. Such detailed investigation and associated costs will be disclosed in advance and agreed upon by the appellant and the University administration.
5.The confidentiality of information relating to grade appeals shall be respected by all parties involved in the case.
6.All appeals shall be concluded before the completion of the following academic semester.
7.After the final disposition of a grade appeal, all documents related to the grade appeal shall be secured in the office of the Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs.

ATTENTION ..."ONLINE LOAN APPLICATION SYSTEM (OLAS)"

The Higher Education Students' Loans Board (HESLB) has introduced an Online Loan Application System (OLAS) that will be used by first time loan applicants as well as continuing students with effect from the academic year 2011/2012. The online loan application system has been introduced to enhance loan issuance process and record keeping.

Through OLAS, loan applicants will key in their personal data/information and submit to HESLB online. Loan applicants will have to visit HESLB website: http://www.heslb.go.tz and proceed to a link called "Online Loan Application System". Alternatively, Applicants may go straight to Online Loan Application System at http://olas.heslb.go.tz .

OLAS guidelines which detail procedures involved in the application process are found on HESLB website. Printed text Brochures are being circulated countrywide to reach prospective higher education students, parents and the general public in order to educate them on the new application system. The Brochures shall be available with effect from 1st April, 2011 at the following centres: (1) At all Higher Education Institutions (2) At the Offices of the District Education Officers (3) At the District Post Offices

All students who are aspiring to join higher learning institutions for the academic year 2011/2012 are advised to carefully go through the guidelines in order to acquaint themselves with necessary knowledge i.e. logging-in and submission of the online loan application form. It is important that Applicants submit authentic information so as to facilitate proper grading of loans to eligible applicants.

Commencement of the loan application process shall be 1st April, 2011 and the deadline for receipt of the online applications shall be 30th June, 2011 and there shall be no extension of the deadline.

ADMISSION INTO NON-DEGREE AND DEGREE PROGRAMMES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2011/2012

The Faculty of Law at Tumaini University-Iringa invites applications from qualified Tanzanians and non-Tanzanians for admission to the degree and non-degree programmes for the academic year 2011/2012. Whereas applicants from all nationalities can apply under self sponsorship, Tanzanians can also be considered for educational loan under the Higher Education Students Loans Board. Tanzanian applicants should, therefore, indicate whether they will be self sponsored or intend to apply for a loan.


A) ADMISSION TO DIPLOMA AND CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES

1.0 CERTIFICATE IN LAW (CL)
Applicants must have successfully completed Certificate of Secondary Education (“O”-level certificate) with at least TWO CREDITS or FIVE PASSES in his/her subjects including English and, or History.
OR
Must hold at least one Principal level pass in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education. Where the Principal passes do not include English, History or Kiswahili; the applicant must have obtained at least a pass in English or History or Kiswahili in the Certificate of Ordinary level Secondary Education

2.0 DIPLOMA IN LAW (DL)
Applicants for admission into the Diploma in Law Programme of the Tumaini University-Iringa must be holders of:

(i) A Certificate in Law (CL) or its equivalent awarded by the Tumaini University-Iringa or any other accredited University or Institution.
OR

(ii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent with at least one Principal passes in the subjects including English and, or History. Where the Principal passes do not include English or History, applicant must have passed in English and History at “0” level.



B) ADMISSION TO BACHELOR OF LAWS (LLB) AND MASTER OF LAWS IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY LAW (LLM-ICT LAW) PROGRAMMES

1.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THE BACHELOR OF LAWS (LL.B) PROGRAMME
Candidates eligible for admission to the LLB programme must either;
Category A: Direct Entry (Form VI-“A” Level candidates)
.
a. At least two principal level passes and one subsidiary in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education or equivalent at the same sitting with total points not below 4.5, obtained from the scoring below;
A = 5; B = 4; C=3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5; F = 0.
In addition, candidates must have obtained a credit in English at O-level. or a Principal pass in Form VI English.

OR
Category B: Equivalent Qualifications
a. Received a “C” or a Pass in Form IV English, or a Principal pass in Form VI English and
b. Earned a Diploma in Law or relevant field with Second Class classification from an Accredited College or University, or
c. Earned a Certificate in Law from an Accredited College or University with a Pass with Distinction classification.
OR
Category C: Entrance Examination Qualifications
a. Applicants who have at least two principal passes, but have less than 4.5 total points in the ACSEE must undertake pre entry remedial course of six weeks and pass an Examination thereafter.

2.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO THE MASTER OF LAWS IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY LAW (LLM-ICT LAW) PROGRAMMES

To be considered for admission to the LLM-ICT Law, a candidate must have:-
(a) A Bachelor of Laws degree with at least a Second Class Degree OR its equivalent grade awarded by Tumaini University – Iringa or any other accredited institution of higher learning or university. OR
(b) A Postgraduate Diploma in Law from any accredited institution of higher learning or university with at least a second class pass or an equivalent grade/assessment mark. OR
(c) A Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer science or Informatics with an average of “B”, or its equivalent from an accredited university/institution of higher learning; plus at least a Certificate of Law with an average of “B” pass awarded by any accredited institution of higher learning or university. Applicants without a certificate of Law must attend a pre-entry programme offered by the Faculty of Law at Tumaini University-Iringa. OR
(d) A pass degree from accredited University in any cluster of programmes as in (a or b or c) above with a minimum working experience of two years in any related field.

SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
a) Applicants must have studied and passed research methodology at undergraduate level.
